Mummy of King Thutmose II discovered in an ancient Egyptian tomb.

Archaeologists uncover the mummy of King Thutmose II, revealing insights into Egypt’s ancient royal history.

Archaeologists have unearthed the royal tomb of King Thutmose II in a site situated west of Egypt’s Valley of Kings. When the team discovered the tomb in 2022, they initially believed it belonged to one of the wives of past kings. This assumption was because of its proximity to Queen Hatshepsut’s tomb. However, fragments of alabaster jars bearing Thutmose II’s name and inscriptions of his wife’s name confirmed he was the tomb’s occupant. According to experts, the burial site was poorly chosen and experienced water damage soon after the king’s death. Consequently, most of its content was relocated to another site. Excavations will continue in hopes of uncovering new insights into the king’s life and final resting place.
