Beijing Sees US Tariffs as Opportunity for Stronger Nigeria-China Trade Ties

Tanzanian government officials and international representatives gather for a high-level political discussion.
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has described the recent US reciprocal tariffs as a “crisis with opportunities” to strengthen economic and trade relations between China and Nigeria. Speaking in Abuja, Yu emphasized that these trade challenges could serve as a catalyst for deepening cooperation, offering opportunities for enhanced market access and infrastructure development. He highlighted China’s long-standing commitment to multilateralism, pledging to resist protectionism and support an open global trading system. Yu also reaffirmed China’s dedication to helping African nations, particularly Nigeria, by expanding exports, attracting investments, and fostering economic growth. With rising global trade disruptions, Yu sees this collaboration as key to securing Nigeria’s economic future.
