Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote’s conglomerate has signed a landmark $400 million equipment deal with China’s Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group, accelerating its push to expand its refinery to a 1.4 million barrels per day capacity within three years. The partnership will supply heavy-duty machinery across Dangote’s sprawling refining, petrochemical, agriculture, and infrastructure projects simultaneously. The expansion’s scale is immense: polypropylene capacity will nearly triple to 2.4 million tons per year, urea production will surge to 9 million tons annually—potentially making Dangote the world’s largest urea producer when combined with its Ethiopian plant—and linear alkyl benzene output will position the group as Africa’s biggest detergent ingredient supplier. The group described the partnership as a strategic cornerstone of its ambition to become a $100 billion enterprise by 2030.
