Dangote Refinery Boosts Nigeria’s Fuel Independence

By Nairametrics·Edited by Editor TO·

Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery supplied roughly 50 million liters of petrol daily to the domestic market during the first half of 2026. According to Dangote Group’s macroeconomic report, daily deliveries reached a record 56 million liters in April, while refinery capacity utilization climbed to between 98% and 101% from April through June. This coincides with an increase in the facility’s processing capacity from 650,000 to 700,000 barrels per day in June. Beyond petrol, the refinery supplied substantial volumes of diesel and aviation fuel while expanding exports across West Africa and other markets. As a result, Nigeria’s dependence on imported petrol has declined, with average daily petrol imports falling 26% to 14.6 million liters in August 2026.
