Aliko Dangote says investor demand for the planned listing of Dangote Petroleum Refinery on the Nigerian Exchange has already surpassed $2 billion in private placement requests, underscoring confidence in Africa’s largest refinery project. Speaking during a visit by FirstHoldCo executives to the Lagos facility, Dangote said the IPO is intended to broaden ownership and allow ordinary Africans to benefit from industrialization-driven wealth creation. The 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery has become a flagship project for regional energy independence. Dangote also disclosed that the proposed 700,000-barrel-per-day capacity East African refinery could begin operations within three to four years. He argued that Africa must stop exporting raw materials and importing finished products—a cycle he described as exporting jobs and importing poverty.
