Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery has surpassed its nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), hitting 700,000 bpd during a performance test. The achievement highlights the rapid growth of Africa’s largest refinery, which began fuel production in 2024 and now supplies gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel to domestic and international markets. Company executives said the refinery aims to double capacity to 1.4 million bpd within the next 30 months, potentially making it one of the world’s largest refining facilities. Exports have risen sharply, with shipments reaching 353,000 bpd in April from 168,000 bpd in February. Growing demand from African buyers seeking alternatives amid global supply disruptions has strengthened the refinery’s regional influence, while increasing jet fuel output is attracting interest from international traders and crude suppliers.
