Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, plans to significantly expand his investments in Tanzania with a series of large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects. Following discussions with President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Dangote announced proposals to build a new port, a 2,000-megawatt coal-fired power plant, a 40-kilometer access road serving the port, a special economic zone, a urea fertilizer plant, and transport links connecting Mtwara to Mbamba Bay. The projects align with the Dangote Group’s broader strategy to deepen its industrial footprint across Africa through investments in energy, refining, manufacturing, and logistics. The company has also outlined plans to invest about $40 billion across the continent over the next five years while expanding refinery and fertilizer operations in countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda.
