DR Congo Ebola Cases Decline

By Anadolu Ajansi·Edited by Editor TO·

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is showing signs of improvement, with both new infections and deaths declining, according to the World Health Organization. Over the latest two 14-day periods, new cases fell by 20.3% while deaths declined by 24.2%. As of September 26, the outbreak had recorded 8,067 confirmed cases, including 3,901 deaths and 2,070 recoveries. Cases have been reported across 63 health zones in seven provinces. In Ituri, one of the worst-affected areas, case numbers have gradually fallen from a mid-August peak, although transmission remains elevated in hotspots including Mandima, Nia Nia, and Mongbwalu. WHO officials stressed that early treatment greatly improves survival odds, yet many patients are dying at home or in their communities because they cannot reach clinics in time.
