Durban is charting a bold course to become Africa’s premier superyacht destination, with interest from Italy’s Navigo International sparking fresh momentum. Recently, the organizers of the prestigious Yachting Aftersales and Refit Experience (YARE) conference spent five days assessing Durban’s port infrastructure as part of a bid to host YARE’s first African edition in 2026. Backed by a new agreement between Navigo and KwaZulu-Natal’s provincial government, the initiative aims to unlock a $5.6 billion ocean economy through skills training, port upgrades, and a superyacht manufacturing hub. City officials believe the event could spotlight Durban as a global luxury marine tourism hotspot, despite recent challenges such as beach closures and declining tourist numbers. Navigo’s leadership remains optimistic about Durban’s potential to become a regional leader in Southern Africa’s yachting sector.
