Egypt Begins Local Production of Chinese Electric Cars

Egypt has begun assembling the MAGE EV, a Chinese-designed electric passenger car, at the state-owned El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company. Officials announced production in October, saying locally sourced components could account for as much as 45% of the vehicle. Developed with Dongfeng, its local representative SN Automotive, and Al-Safy Group, the model is expected to reach showrooms in the first quarter of 2027. El Nasr plans to build 3,000 units in its first year. The launch comes as Egypt’s electric-car market expands: about 7,900 new EVs were sold in 2025, making it Africa’s largest market. The government wants electric cars to make up half of private-vehicle sales by 2040, with at least two other assembly projects on track to begin operations in 2027.
