Egypt has announced a new oil and gas discovery in the Abu Sennan field of its vast Western Desert, with initial tests revealing the potential to produce 1,400 barrels of oil and one million cubic feet of gas per day. The Western Desert, situated in the Sahara Desert, is part of Egypt’s territory, covering two-thirds of the country’s land area. The find comes as part of a major push to boost domestic energy production, with Egypt planning to invest $7.2 billion by 2030 to drill over 580 wells. Officials believe the discovery could add around two million recoverable barrels to Egypt’s reserves. It’s also the second discovery in the region in three months—both aided by AI-driven exploration. As Egypt works to position itself as a regional energy hub, such finds highlight the untapped potential of mature fields and the growing power of modern technology.
