Egypt’s minister of petroleum and mineral resources has stated that Cairo is ready to partner with other African nations to refine and process the continent’s resources locally rather than exporting them raw. Speaking at the Alamein Africa Forum, the minister advocated developing infrastructure, technical expertise, and financing for integrated industrial value chains on the continent. He offered Egypt’s help with connecting African countries with markets in Europe and the Middle East. The minister also noted Egypt’s intention to share its technical capabilities across the continent. Meanwhile, energy industry executives at the event highlighted the high costs of electricity generation and lengthy project development timelines as barriers to investment. They urged policymakers across the continent to reduce the cost of generating power and remove barriers that delay power projects.
