Renowned Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass has initiated a petition calling for the return of Queen Nefertiti’s bust from Berlin’s Neues Museum to Egypt. Discovered in 1912 by a German archaeological team at Tell el-Amarna, the painted limestone bust was taken to Berlin the following year. Hawass argues that the artifact was removed illegally and should be repatriated. In his petition, he emphasized that his campaign focuses on returning key items removed unlawfully, including Nefertiti’s bust, the Rosetta Stone, and the Dendera Zodiac. While the Neues Museum has not yet responded, Hawass urges supporters to sign the petition on his website to bolster Egypt’s case. The initiative seeks to reclaim significant cultural heritage for Egypt.
