Passengers boarding an Ethiopian Airlines plane at the airport amid concerns over healthcare funding cuts.
Ethiopian Airlines reported an 8% revenue increase for the 2024/25 financial year, reaching $7.6 billion, driven by an 11% surge in passenger numbers to 19 million. Despite facing operational challenges from conflicts in Sudan, the DRC, and the Middle East—as well as regulatory changes in the US—the airline added six new routes. It also continued to expand its fleet, including the delivery of its fourth Airbus A350-1000, and plans to order 20 regional jets to strengthen domestic operations. Looking ahead, Ethiopian Airlines is set to dominate African skies with its upcoming mega-airport near Addis Ababa, designed to accommodate up to 100 million passengers annually when completed in 2029. The airline’s steady growth signals resilience amid global aviation headwinds.
