Ethiopian federal forces and allied militia have entered Adwa, a strategically important town in the northern Tigray region near the Eritrean border, following the withdrawal of Tigrayan rebel fighters. The advance comes amid renewed fighting between government-aligned forces and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), raising concerns that the conflict could expand into a wider regional confrontation. Ethiopia has accused neighboring Eritrea of supporting Tigrayan rebels and sending troops across the border, allegations Asmara denies. The developments have heightened regional tensions, prompting United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to urge all parties to halt hostilities and return to dialogue. Still, the situation remains volatile, with concerns about renewed instability across the Horn of Africa.
