According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 4.5 billion people across the world lack access to essential healthcare services, which is concerning given that global health systems are facing mounting pressure from multiple threats, including ongoing mpox, cholera, and COVID-19 outbreaks. Also, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is on the rise and is currently one of the leading causes of death globally. Experts warn that the world remains ill-prepared for another pandemic, with lessons from COVID-19 largely unheeded. New health risks, including climate change-induced diseases and the spread of infections in conflict zones, continue to emerge. Without urgent action, the human and economic toll could escalate dramatically by 2050, with up to 14.5 million deaths predicted due to climate change alone. Dr. Ahmed Ogwell, vice president of global health strategy at the United Nations Foundation, advocates for increased global cooperation and improved preparedness to tackle the rising health challenges.
