Four African Countries Rank Among Best Places to Live
Four African nations rank among the world’s best places to live in 2026, according to the Nomad Lifestyle Index. The index assessed 63 destinations based on taxation, safety, climate, residency access, and the quality of services and infrastructure. Seychelles placed 12th globally, followed by Mauritius at 17th. Cape Verde ranked 36th, while Botswana finished 44th. Seychelles stood out in the tax category, scoring 88 out of 100, while Botswana scored 77. All four finished ahead of the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States, which ranked 47th, 48th, and 54th, respectively. The findings highlight alternatives for internationally mobile individuals, although the index primarily reflects expatriate priorities rather than the everyday circumstances of local populations.
