Ghana’s state gold-trading authority, GoldBod, saw profits jump to roughly $78.4 million in 2025, up from $15.6 million the previous year—a more than 400% increase. President John Dramani Mahama attributed the performance to efforts to create a more transparent and nationally beneficial gold-trading system. GoldBod purchases and aggregates gold from artisanal and small-scale miners for export as part of a government push to curb smuggling and informal trading while boosting foreign-exchange earnings. The gains came alongside strong sector-wide growth: Ghana’s gold output rose 23.4% to nearly 5.94 million ounces in 2025, driven largely by increased artisanal and small-scale mining production. Gold exports nearly doubled to about $20 billion, making gold the country’s largest source of export earnings, ahead of cocoa and oil.
