Groups Sue Ghana Over US Deportation Deal

Ghana New IMF Agreement

Advocacy groups have filed a legal complaint against Accra with a West African regional court on behalf of 27 people deported to Ghana by the Trump administration, alleging they were swiftly sent onward to countries they had originally fled. At least 60 people were deported to Ghana starting in September 2025 as part of a broader US strategy to curb illegal immigration. The complaint claims many deportees had legal protections in the US but were removed within hours or days of arriving in Ghana, with some left stranded in third countries. Litigator Beatrice Njeri said the case seeks at least $100,000 in compensation per deportee and aims to discourage other West African nations from striking similar deals with Washington.
