By Africanews·Edited by Editor TO·

France Football has unveiled nominations for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, with several African players featured ahead of the October 26 ceremony in London. Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, fresh off a Champions League win with Paris Saint-Germain and an Africa Cup of Nations title, has earned a men’s nomination for the second straight year alongside Senegal’s Sadio Mané. The two are the only African nominees for the men’s award, with 30 nominees in total. On the women’s side, Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga are both in contention, with Chawinga having helped Malawi reach its first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final. Côte d’Ivoire’s Yan Diomandé and Algeria’s Ibrahim Maza are up for the Kopa Trophy, which recognizes the best young player, while Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, Senegal’s Édouard Mendy and Cabo Verde’s Vozinha represent Africa among the nominees for the goalkeeper award.
