When well-designed and delivered reliably, they can significantly boost trust in state institutions and increase political engagement. However, the effects on community relationships are more complex; while some programs strengthen social bonds, poorly implemented ones can fuel resentment or tension between recipients and non-recipients. Ultimately, the design is decisive: transparent targeting and clear state attribution maximize positive social and political outcomes.
