A major joint operation by Interpol and Afripol has led to 83 arrests across six African countries, exposing vast networks funding terrorism. The operation revealed a disturbing trend: terrorism financing is now deeply entwined with cybercrime, massive Ponzi schemes, and cryptocurrency fraud. Dubbed Operation Catalyst, the three-month initiative uncovered more than $260 million in illicit funds linked to terror groups. Authorities in Angola, Kenya, Nigeria, and other countries disrupted money-laundering rings, seized assets, and identified 160 new persons of interest. Investigators also dismantled a $562 million crypto-based Ponzi scheme spanning 17 countries. Interpol hailed the mission as a breakthrough in uniting African law enforcement against terror financing, emphasizing that intelligence sharing is key to dismantling the financial arteries sustaining extremist networks.
