Israel Deepens Nigeria Ties

By Business Insider Africa·Edited by Editor TO·

Israel has begun delivering ambulances and medical equipment to Nigeria, following through on a pledge made earlier this year. Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency medical service, handed over the first consignment at Israel’s Port of Ashdod on behalf of the Israeli government, with Nigeria’s ambassador, Nkechi Ufochukwu, receiving the equipment. The equipment, including fully outfitted ambulances and mobility aids, is destined for hospitals and emergency centers across Nigeria. The delivery fulfils part of Israel’s pledge to provide between 50 and 60 ambulances and train Nigerian personnel. The donation coincides with broader ties: the two nations have discussed a defense agreement and, more recently, security, intelligence-sharing, and border-management cooperation. For Nigeria, the aid addresses gaps in emergency response infrastructure, particularly in underserved communities. For Israel, the program offers an opportunity to deepen goodwill and institutional ties with Africa’s most populous country.
