Kenyan Court Lifts Hold on Dangote’s Lamu Refinery

By Nairametrics·Edited by Editor TO·

A Kenyan court has cleared the way for Aliko Dangote’s proposed $16 billion oil refinery in Lamu County to proceed, lifting an earlier restriction linked to a land dispute. High Court Judge Jane Onyango lifted an earlier freeze on Wednesday after finding that 133 local petitioners had named the wrong land parcel in their filing. She allowed them to amend the petition, and the case returns to court on November 24. Roughly 700 more residents may join. The proposed facility is designed to process 700,000 barrels of crude oil daily, with commissioning targeted for 2030. Dangote has also offered East African countries a combined 30% ownership stake, attracting interest from Kenya and Rwanda.
