By CNBC Africa·Edited by Editor TO·

Kenya’s economy expanded 5.1% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, up from 4.9% in the same period last year. The latest figures point to stronger economic activity, supported by transportation and storage, as well as accommodation and food services. Transportation and storage grew 4.4%, up from 3.3% in the second quarter of 2025, indicating improved performance in a sector that supports trade, logistics, and domestic mobility. Other sectors that recorded notable growth included electricity, information and communication technologies, financial services, and construction. The figures point to growth spread across both services and infrastructure-linked industries, including utilities and building. The faster pace gives policymakers and investors a modestly encouraging signal on the direction of Kenya’s economy as the year progresses.
