President William Ruto has faced heavy criticism for how his government has handled Kenya’s ongoing flooding disaster, which has wreaked havoc across the country. Exacerbated by the El Niño weather pattern, the flooding is the worst Kenya has faced in three decades. So far, it has claimed over 150 lives and displaced over 150,000 persons. Given its severity, and the threat of more heavy rainfall over the coming days, many people have called on President Ruto to declare the problem a national disaster, with the hope it will activate a more robust response than at present. President Ruto has, however, declined to heed their calls, instead focusing on delivering resources to the affected territories.
