The study evaluated leading birding locations using multiple criteria, including bird diversity, notable species, accessibility, weather, and travel costs. Tsavo East impressed with its wide variety of savannah and forest birds, while Kruger’s more than 500 recorded species reinforced South Africa’s reputation as a premier wildlife destination beyond its famous Big Five safaris. Although Peru claimed the top two positions overall, Africa featured prominently, with Botswana also making the global top 20. The rankings highlight the continent’s extraordinary biodiversity and growing appeal to travelers seeking immersive nature experiences, positioning African parks among the world’s finest destinations for birdwatching tourism.
