Libya’s rival political factions have taken a rare step toward unity, approving the country’s first consolidated national budget in over a decade. Endorsed by both the eastern-based House of Representatives and the Tripoli-based High Council of State, the agreement signals cautious progress after years of division since the 2014 civil war. Central Bank Governor Naji Issa hailed the deal as proof that compromise remains possible, even as competing power centers persist. The agreement is particularly timely, as global demand for Libya’s oil has surged due to energy disruptions linked to the Iran conflict. While the breakthrough may not resolve deep political fractures, it introduces a more structured approach to managing the country’s finances and its energy sector.
