Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen will fulfill his FIA-mandated community service in Kigali next week when he visits for the FIA’s annual awards gala. The Dutchman, fresh off his fourth consecutive championship win, was mandated to do a “work of public interest” as punishment for swearing during a press conference at the Singapore Grand Prix in September. While in Kigali, where he will receive the trophy for his latest championship win, Verstappen will work with junior competitors as part of a grassroots development program organized by the Rwanda Automobile Club. The initiative involves an affordable cross car built locally in Rwanda using FIA blueprints, highlighting efforts to promote motorsport development in Africa. The announcement comes as Formula 1 faces growing calls to expand its presence on the continent and host a future edition in Rwanda.
