Morocco players celebrate their AFCON victory with an intense moment on the field, highlighting their triumph after the appeal.

In a dramatic reversal, the Confederation of African Football has stripped Senegal of its Africa Cup of Nations trophy, with Morocco declared champions two months after a deeply contentious final. Senegal’s coach and players walked off the pitch during the January 18 match to protest a disallowed goal and a penalty awarded to Morocco, violating CAF regulations that declare any team leaving without referee authorization an automatic loser. CAF’s appeal board upheld Morocco’s petition, converting the original 1-0 Senegal win into a 3-0 forfeit victory for the Atlas Lions. Senegal’s federation condemned the ruling as “iniquitous and unacceptable” and plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
