Morocco has made a breakthrough in its mining sector with the discovery of exceptionally high-grade gold deposits in the southern Guelmim region. Mining firm OLAH Palace Trading confirmed the discovery, identifying 34 quartz veins with concentrations ranging from 6 to 30 grams per ton—well above global benchmarks for world-class deposits. Preliminary estimates suggest a potential of 3–5 million ounces, which would dwarf Morocco’s current annual production of about 100 kilograms. The discovery is being hailed as one of North Africa’s most significant in recent years, with experts noting the site’s favorable geological structure for recovery. If confirmed, the find could elevate Morocco into one of Africa’s gold powerhouses, attract global investment, and strengthen its role as a rising exporter in the continent’s mining industry.
