Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains are changing rapidly as tourism expands, traditional architecture gives way to modern buildings, and rural communities continue recovering from the devastating September 2023 earthquake. At the center of this transformation is the Kasbah du Toubkal, a mountain retreat established in 1995. Located above the village of Imlil, the property offers visitors access to spectacular mountain scenery and trekking routes through neighboring valleys. Nearby, Azzaden Valley retains a largely agricultural economy and offers a glimpse of traditional Berber life. Beyond hospitality, the Kasbah supports surrounding communities through a 5% levy on guest bills, which has helped fund an ambulance, waste management, and educational opportunities for more than 800 local girls.
