DP World has selected Portuguese construction firm Mota-Engil to lead the development of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s first deep-water port in Banana, Kongo Central. The project aims to boost regional trade, reduce reliance on foreign ports, and facilitate intra-African commerce. It will be developed in phases, with the first phase featuring a quay, storage area, and a capacity of 450,000 TEUs annually. The project will also create jobs and integrate DRC into Africa’s supply chain, supporting local industries and benefiting the broader continent.
