Nigeria’s headline inflation rate edged down to 15.39% in August 2026 from 15.43% in July, extending the country’s disinflation trend for a third consecutive month. The latest figure was also 7.75 percentage points below the 23.14% recorded in August 2025. The National Bureau of Statistics said the moderation reflected slower monthly price increases, particularly in food and core inflation. Month-on-month headline inflation fell sharply to 0.71% from 1.57% in July, while the 12-month average declined to 16.30% from 28.32% a year earlier. Food inflation dropped to 19.57% year-on-year, with monthly food inflation falling to 1.02% from 5.56%. Core inflation also eased to 13.29% annually and turned negative at -0.06% monthly. Rural inflation, however, accelerated to 1.79% month-on-month, indicating renewed short-term pressure outside urban areas.
