President Bola Tinubu has launched Nigeria’s National Halal Economy Strategy, a bold move aimed at unlocking a share of the $7.7 trillion global halal market and accelerating economic diversification. Unveiled in Abuja by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the policy outlines a roadmap spanning food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, logistics, tourism, and Islamic finance. The government projects the strategy could add about $1.5 billion to Nigeria’s GDP by 2027, while creating jobs and boosting exports. Officials emphasized the need for disciplined execution to meet global standards and convert opportunity into lasting value. The initiative builds on Nigeria’s recent halal quality agreement with Türkiye, signaling ambitions to become a competitive global halal hub.
