The United States has approved a $346 million arms deal with Nigeria to bolster its fight against escalating terrorist violence. The package includes over 1,000 MK-82 bombs, 5,000 precision-guided rocket systems, laser-guided bomb kits, and technical support. Washington says the sale will enhance Nigeria’s ability to counter terrorist groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP, as well as combat illicit trafficking in the Gulf of Guinea. Nigeria has recently intensified military operations in the northeast, killing 592 insurgents in Borno over the past eight months. According to Air Chief Hasan Abubakar, the military has intensified precision air strikes this year, significantly degrading insurgent networks. It is believed that the new weapons will further sharpen the military’s precision strikes, allowing for more effective operations.
