Nigeria says it will seek compensation from South Africa for citizens who abandoned homes and businesses while fleeing the recent anti-illegal migration protests. Officials say the matter will be raised through diplomatic channels at the highest levels of government. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to South Africa stated that authorities have begun cataloguing homes, vehicles, and businesses left behind, urging evacuees to record their losses carefully. More than 600 Nigerians have already been repatriated, while hundreds more await evacuation. South African authorities maintain that many returnees were in the country illegally, a claim Nigeria disputes. The protests, led by groups demanding tougher action against undocumented migrants, have prompted about 25,000 foreign nationals to leave South Africa.
