Nigeria’s incumbent president leads in early reelection polls amid political campaigns.

Nigerian security forces have rescued 46 pupils and teachers abducted during a rare school attack in Oyo State in May, following a joint military, police, and intelligence operation. President Bola Tinubu said several suspected terrorists were killed during the mission, while eight others were arrested. The victims were kidnapped from three schools in Orire, near Ogbomoso, in an attack that the Nigerian army linked to Boko Haram militants. Authorities said the kidnappers had demanded the release of one of their members facing prosecution. Southwest Nigeria, home to the major education hub of Ibadan, has long been considered one of the country’s safer regions, making the abduction unusual and shocking to many. Officials described the successful rescue as a significant security achievement and reaffirmed their commitment to tackling armed groups across the country.
