Orange’s Africa and Middle East division now supplies about a fifth of the French telecom group’s revenue and is growing faster than any other region, according to regional chief executive Yasser Shaker. The division generated about $9.43 billion, up 12.2% year over year, while first-half 2026 revenue rose 13.9%, outpacing the group’s 3.5% increase. Shaker says the regions’ young, growing population offers opportunities beyond mobile connectivity, particularly in financial technology and digital services. Orange Money had 48.5 million monthly active users by the end of March 2026, while its Max it super app had 39 million users. The company is also using shared regional platforms to reduce costs and spread successful services across markets. Shaker identifies affordability and access to devices as major barriers to wider internet use, and he sees AI improving marketing and local-language services.
