Residents of Sudan are inching closer to widespread starvation and death, unless help arrives soon, according to a UN agency, the World Food Programme. Speaking on Friday, Michael Dunford, the director for the WFP’s Eastern Africa region, revealed that many people in Darfur, Western Sudan, have been forced to subsist on grass and peanut shells. His warning comes amidst an escalation in violence between the Sudanese army on one hand and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the other hand.
