Petrobras expands into Africa with a stake in Namibian oil block, strengthening its global energy portfolio.

Brazil’s state-owned energy giant Petrobras is making a strategic return to Africa after acquiring a 42.5% stake in an offshore oil exploration block off Namibia’s coast. The deal, announced alongside TotalEnergies—which holds an equal stake and will operate the asset—reflects Petrobras’ push to expand reserves beyond Brazil. While the transaction value was not disclosed, the move aligns with the company’s long-term 2026–2030 business plan and a broader shift toward African energy frontiers. CEO Magda Chambriard has previously highlighted Namibia, Angola, and Nigeria as priority markets for growth. The investment reverses earlier divestments under past governments, signaling renewed confidence in Africa’s offshore oil potential as global energy players seek new exploration opportunities.
