Ghana’s parliamentary deadlock leads to indefinite suspension, highlighting political tensions and governance challenges.
Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reshuffled his cabinet in a bid to make his administration more efficient. The changes come amid a deepening economic crisis and include the dismissal of five ministers, the appointment of seven new ones, and the reassignment of 10 others to different roles. The portfolios affected include humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction, trade and investment, labor, and livestock development. Since Tinubu became president in 2023, he has enacted several reforms aimed at helping the country confront its economic challenges. However, these reforms, including the devaluation of the local currency and the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies, have led to inflation surging to a 28-year high of 32.7%, exacerbating the cost-of-living crisis. Despite being one of Africa’s top oil producers, Nigeria faces widespread poverty, while its public officials live far removed from the struggles of ordinary citizens.
