Russian President Vladimir Putin has voiced his support for expanding the UN Security Council to include Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Africa, which makes up more than a quarter of UN membership, has no permanent council seat, a gap the African Union has long sought to close. Speaking at the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi, Putin said broader representation would strengthen the UN’s role in global affairs. Putin also called for reforms to the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and World Trade Organization, arguing that the institutions have struggled to adapt to changing political and economic conditions. He urged BRICS members to coordinate more closely within those organizations.
