Tanzania and Angola have agreed to develop a railway connection linking their respective Atlantic and Indian Ocean transport corridors through Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced the initiative, which will connect Angola’s Benguela Railway to the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA), extending the Lobito Corridor to Tanzania’s port of Dar es Salaam. The proposed connection could strengthen regional trade and improve access to international markets for landlocked countries along the route. The announcement comes amid renewed investment in regional railway infrastructure. Tanzania is also considering cooperation with Angola on an oil refinery project, although no investment commitment has been confirmed.
