South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has reshuffled his cabinet, appointing Willie Aucamp as agriculture minister and moving former Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen to deputy trade minister at the request of the party’s new leader, Geordin Hill-Lewis. The changes come as the coalition government seeks to strengthen its response to a severe foot-and-mouth disease outbreak affecting the agricultural sector. Ramaphosa also named Dina Pule as the minister of social development, filling a vacancy left after the dismissal of Sisisi Tolashe over misconduct allegations. Pule, a senior figure in the ANC Women’s League, last held a cabinet post in 2013 before being dismissed following a scandal involving preferential treatment for a company run by her then-boyfriend.
