Madagascar’s new transitional leader, Michael Randrianirina, has delivered his first national address nearly a month after taking office. During the televised speech, Randrianirina recounted the tense, youth-driven uprising that brought him to power. He rejected accusations that Andry Rajoelina’s ouster was a coup, stressing that no violence occurred and that ongoing investigations target corruption, not political revenge. Randrianirina then unveiled an ambitious roadmap that begins with a nationwide consultation led by the FFKM, followed by a referendum and presidential election within two years. While he declined to confirm his own candidacy, stating the choice belongs to the people, he pledged improved civic education, a new Youth Assembly, and a deeper emphasis on Malagasy language and history in schools. Closing his remarks, he urged patience, saying national rebuilding must be a shared, long-term effort.
