Russia is broadening its cultural footprint in Africa as Moscow seeks to build relationships that extend beyond military and security cooperation. According to reports, the country will open eight of 11 new “Russian Houses” on the continent, adding to the 16 centers it has already established in Africa. Through these facilities, Moscow intends to promote Russian language, education, science, and culture through scholarships, university programs, exchanges, and cultural initiatives. As part of its educational initiatives, Russia plans to fine-tune its offerings to each nation, providing opportunities in areas where the country is lacking. The new centers are planned in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. Russia also plans to launch a micro-grant program in 2027 that will support education, science, technology, culture, and youth projects abroad, reflecting Moscow’s broader effort to strengthen long-term partnerships across Africa.
