Rwanda has secured approximately $190 million in financing through a 15-year arrangement, marking the country’s debut in yen-denominated borrowing. About half of the financing will be raised in yen, helping Rwanda diversify its currency exposure and strengthen links with Asian investors. The remaining funding includes an €82 million tranche valued at about $95.55 million. The facility also provides a six-year grace period, allowing Rwanda to defer repayments until after its existing $620 million international bond matures in August 2031. The funds will support general government spending, as well as priority sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture. The funding is supported by guarantees from two World Bank Group institutions, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency and the International Development Association.
