Rwanda is gearing up for a major environmental restoration project in its Southern Province, thanks to a $9 million grant from the Global Environment Facility. Launching in August 2025, the initiative, led by the Rwanda Environment Management Authority and supported by the World Bank, will focus on reviving degraded forests and wetlands in the Nyungwe–Ruhango Corridor. Targeting districts prone to climate disasters such as floods and landslides, the project aims to rehabilitate over 2,100 hectares of land and promote sustainable farming across nearly 9,000 hectares. The initiative will also create 2,200 green jobs, boost eco-friendly businesses, and directly benefit over 289,000 people.
