Senegal’s oil sector delivered a great surprise in 2025, with crude production climbing to 36.1 million barrels, comfortably beating initial forecasts by nearly 6 million barrels. Earlier estimates had already been revised upward, but output still outpaced expectations thanks to resilient reservoirs, well-maintained wells, and efficient operations. The surge was driven by the Sangomar offshore field, located about 100 kilometers off Dakar and operated by Woodside Energy since 2024. This momentum carried into the final month of the year, with nearly 3 million barrels shipped to international markets in December alone. Senegal also recorded a milestone in liquefied natural gas, exporting a record 0.5 million cubic meters in December, underscoring the country’s growing energy ambitions.
